Elk Grove, CA
Home to nearly 173,000 residents, Elk Grove has grown to become the second largest city in Sacramento County. Founded in 1850, it was named after the Elk Grove Hotel that once serviced travelers. Today Elk Grove covers a land area of roughly 42 square miles just south of California’s capital city.
The Elk Grove area remained a rural farming community until the 1980s, when suburban development began to take shape. In 2000 Elk Grove incorporated as its own city, and by 2005 it was declared the fastest-growing community in the nation. More than 70 local restaurants and attractions are located in and around Elk Grove, including Cosumnes River Preserve, Stone Lakes Refuge and Laguna Creek Parkway, along with several parks and golf courses. The city operates under the motto: “Proud Heritage, Bright Future.”
