    I've been coming to see Dave (owner) at Black Rock Auto, since 2001 and he's a scientist, artist, cat and dog shop lover, knows engineering of all things cars and is pragmatic about applied automotive science and auto tech. Never upsells and always transparent about why he wants to do the repairs your car needs, or you can wait on. Integrity is what you want in a mechanic and I feel Dave and the other Black Rock staff and mechanics, definitely rock/are exceptionally committed to what they do. Like a close family member once stated, "I like to go the extra mile, it's never crowded on the extra mile"- I feel this is what BRA/Black Rock Auto is all about.

    Owner was nice. He quoted me around $300-350 for diagnostic and oil change. Upon completion my total was over $600. For just the diagnostic and oil change. No other work done. Right before Christmas, this surprise was very upsetting. They also did not clear the oil change needed reminder. I let them know and they apologized and said I can bring it back in so they can fix that. But I don’t want to go back after this costly experience so there’s that. I’ll have to figure it out myself.

    Hi, so in first place, we got cust estimate approved 10am for $971.56 Minor Svc, 85pt Inspt, Diagnose CK Eng Lamp, Diagnose Heater not working and replace tstat. I explained will need 2 things: Tstat and blend door to fix CK Eng and get heater working, cust declined. we billed $375 Minor Svc(FULL SYnth ENEOS, Factory Filter, gasket, LM MOS2 Additive, washer fluid, 85 point inspection). We billed $120 to diagnose the Thermostat and $120 to diagnose the failed blend door actuator, this was time needed to pinpoint the problems that she approved beforehand . Total Parts, Labor, Tax and Haz Waste recycling was $632.88.

    Absolutely phenomenal experience. I was driving through Sacramento and called them at 8:00 in the morning. They took my Sprinter in immediately and treated my vehicle as a priority to get me back out on the road the same day. They anticipated what parts I needed and even made a special trip to the dealership to get a sensor that they didn't have in stock. They were thorough, courteous and prompt in resolving my van's issues.

    I wanted to have my 2011 Volvo S40 checked out before a planned roadtrip to Las Vegas next week. Dave was able to schedule an appointment for me the day after I called. The inspection showed a few "do now" items and he got them all done by the end of the day. It was time for an oil change so he did that too. Dave and his staff are knowledgeable, honest and friendly and it's a pleasure to do business with them. I also enjoy visiting with the office cats!

    I don’t usually leave reviews, but Black Rock Automotive absolutely deserves this one. I first visited them a while back for a pre-purchase inspection on a truck, and the experience was phenomenal. Their inspection was detailed, professional, and gave me complete confidence in what I was buying. So when I recently found myself in a terrible situation with a different vehicle, they were the first shop that came to mind. I had just bought a hybrid vehicle from Roseville Toyota, and within three days, the hybrid battery failed. The dealership refused to take the car back or fix it. I was stuck with a car that needed a $6,000 battery replacement, and despite contacting attorneys and other legal resources, no one was able to help me. I felt completely helpless—honestly, at an all-time low. I knew I’d been done dirty by the dealership, and I didn’t know where to turn. In desperation, I started calling around for battery replacement estimates. When I got in touch with Black Rock Automotive again, Dave picked up the phone. Before he would even give me an estimate, he insisted that I call Lexus of North America and dispute the situation. I pushed for a price, but Dave wouldn’t budge—he said, “I’d rather you try that first and see what they say.” Because of his advice, I made the call. Sure enough, just like Dave said, the dealership contacted me shortly after—upset—and suddenly willing to give me a full refund. I was floored. Dave’s words rang 100% true. I can’t overstate how grateful I am for the honesty, integrity, and genuine care shown by Black Rock Automotive. Dave could’ve taken my money like other shops were ready to, but instead he guided me to the best outcome possible. If you want a mechanic that truly has your back, this is the place. Thank you, Dave and Black Rock—you saved me.

    Found this shop via Reddit. Called to ask about a head gasket replacement for a Subaru. I asked if they have experience working in Subarus. The guy (Dave) said, why don’t you check Google and Reddit. I tried explain Reddit and Google don’t talk about Subarus and Dave hung up on me. Either they don’t want the business or I offended him…? Going somewhere else 🙂 I’d give one star but they at least pick up the phone. In response to below: No one else hung up on me. I’m typically a polite person, especially when asking for a service.

    So glad we stopped by Black Rock to get our Tesla's tires rotated. Customer service was great and friendly. It took about 30-45 min. When it was finished and time to pay, Dave showed me a photo of a device they attached to the bottom of our Tesla to keep the plastic and anything else safe from cracking. I was impressed by the thorough details. They gave off a very honest vibe. We will definitely be coming back and we’ll recommend Black Rock to anyone who needs auto repair/service.

    I own a 1992 Dodge Viper. My car developed a radiator leak. I went to the Dodge dealer who informed me they "don't take care of cars that old" which seemed odd since i bought the car from them. I came across Black Rock Automotive which I became instantly impressed with because of all of the positive reviews. Dave accurately diagnosed the problem, ordered the appropriate parts and had it running like new in a very timely fashion.     Excellent service. Honest and direct communication. Respectful of women. To add to this: I had a problem with the Kia dealer- dealers caused a new issue when I went in for recall service- and I scheduled an appointment with BRA just to avoid all the drama and disrespect that was happening at the dealer. It was going to be about $500. Rather than taking my money and getting the simple job done, Dave gave me advice and suggestions for speaking g with the dealer, and I was able to get the Kia dealer to fix their mistake free of charge!

    I went in to get my AC fixed. They replaced it with a blower that makes a very high pitched whine when you have the ac on at all. I went back to ask them to fix it, they offered to put a dealership blower instead for even more money. TL;DR spent 500$ for a very obnoxious sounding AC. I would not recommend this place to a friend

    Dave here, I offered to order dealer blower for customer the same day, explained that cost difference is $53.26 . I told Harrison if you want to change it just let me know, but he never asked us, just left this 1 star review. It was Harrison who decided not to ask us to change it.if there is a problem, best way is to ask straightforward, not to remain silent since we cannot read minds. Our offer still stands for 3 years even though you gave us a 1 star review, since that is our warranty period. Try reading Marcus Aurelius.

    I have always felt uncomfortable taking my car in for service work. I am a single woman who knows nothing about cars and have always felt like an easy mark for unscrupulous mechanics/dealership service centers. After knowing I needed to take my 2014 Honda Civic in for some repair work, I experienced a lot of anxiety about where to take my vehicle. I am new to being a car owner in California, so I started doing research. I asked fellow state employees at work, friends from nonprofit work, did Google and Yelp searches. The one company recommended by everyone was BLACK ROCK. Dave and staff were amazing and thorough. They sent me detailed pics of my car with a list of recommended actions broken down into categories based on urgency. Dave gave me options and even informed me that a cheap 60 dollar repair for my noise issue would be totally sufficient. The level of professionalism, kindness, attention to detail, and integrity at BLACK ROCK is unmatched! If Dave isn't too busy, you may also get to chat with him and learn that he is also knowledgeable about Sacramento history and has a love for Sactown, as do I! There are two shop dogs (did not get to meet) and a shop cat named Tai, who is a sweetheart. So why not take your car to an honest, locally owned auto shop that takes pride in the work that they do?

    Dave was able to repair the damage Westfield Ford could not. Westfield Ford was performing a 100,000 mile service replacing spark plugs etc. they broke off a spark plug in the engine and gave me back the vehicle that required towing. They took no responsibility for breaking off the plug and said they could not get the plug and pieces out of the engine if they tried. Dave is known for his expertise in auto engine repairs along with other mechanical work other shops either cannot repair or do not attempt to repair. Dave is detailed from the beginning to the end. Pictures and a video of the problem and parts were provided from start to finish. Dave is the first shop I have ever come across with excellent communications including progress with photos and video. Black Rock Automotive is highly recommended and is an honest upfront company that is hard to find. Dave and his team earned a 5-Star Rating.

    Best experience I've had at a auto shop. They send you a link to a webpage specific to your car that contains all points of the car that they inspect with their general assessment, or that you told them about. Problems that they find are listed on the website with a picture and notes so you can see what they're talking about and what they recommend. They communicate very well too.

    I called made an appointment and went to my appointment on time to fix my truck. The team was very efficient and kept me in the loop with repairs every step of the way. The completed a diagnostic test on my truck and fix exactly what was wrong with pictures to back it up. By far this shop was the best shop I have ever been to for auto repairs or any auto service. I think I will bring my car in for service as well. Outstanding!!!

    I needed to get a pre-purchase inspection done on a Lexus LS460 I was considering buying. Thankfully I brought the car to Blackrock Automotive. Dave and Richard found body damage my wife and I didn't see, inspected the car while we waited, showed me everything that was wrong with the car and saved me from about $6,000 in repair bills had I bought the car. I would definitely use their services again.

    This local owned shop is great! They were fair, honest and took the time to listen to my needs and address my concerns.     This is a really great mechanics shop. I generally do my own vehicle maintenance and repairs, but I brought a new vehicle in for an inspection and was very pleased with the thoroughness of the service. I also really enjoyed the interactions with the staff and the owner, which is an aspect of the experience that exceeded my expectations. The shop is cool, and they have dogs and a cat on-site which is a bonus in my books. Thanks again!

Dave even vaccuumed the floorboard and topped off the oil at no extra charge! The shop is also very warm and welcoming with excellent vibes, including an adorable cat and friendly dogs! :) I will keep coming back every time I have an issue with my hybrid. He is generous with his knowledge and seems to know so much! He explains not only what his shop did, but why they did it, and will even show you any parts that had to be replaced if possible. And if all of that isn't enough, THEY HAVE LOANER CARS! So convenient! You won't regret taking your car to Dave and his crew.

    My car needed an oil change amongst various other things including new spark plugs and replacing a coupler in the steering wheel. I do not trust just anyone with my cars and read a handful of reviews to find the most trustworthy place to take my car. The reviews for Black Rock Auto seemed good I paid a premium going to this location as they charged almost as much as Hyundai would to fix the issues. The first issue was a minor one. After replacing the coupler the tech forgot to check the fuse and I couldn't open my trunk or gas cover. So I had to come back the next day and take an hour off of work to have them rectify it.. No big deal, I understand things happen. This second issue was a major one. When the tech went to take off the old oil change sticker on the top left windshield and replace it with the new one. He tore a chunk of my tint out. This is 3M crystalline tint that cost over $1000 do be installed on all windows of my car. I brought this up with the owner Dave and he stated that an issue like this a "reasonable expectation". He offered to patch up the 2 inch by 2 inch tear in my tint with "clear film" or a "small patch of tint". Unfortunately tint cannot be patched, if it could that would be a reasonable fix. I stated to the owner that he needs to return my car in the same condition that it was given to him in, meaning he needs to replace the entire front window tint, he stated that was not an option and he would not do that. I paid the shop $1500, and that's a hefty lesson I had to learn today. I would definitely not recommend this shop to anyone. Thanks, Sam

    I offered to install a silver dollar piece of window tint in the upper left where the inspection sticker goes, customer declined. The Oil Change Sticker was placed there by a different shop, and the tint came off with the old sticker. We offered a solution of a new piece under the new inspection sticker, but owner declined.

    Found them after a few Google searches! Super great shop! Beyond thorough with the 73 point inspection. Loved their app for the detailed report, with parts and code readings. They use Carfax and checked on recalls. Completely update to technology, with email and status updates. They took my in on Monday, it needed some work and they were done by noon Tuesday. I am so pleased, I will be back and will continue to refer them!
